Hiring: Head of Circulation

The Mascoutah Public Library is hiring a full time Head of Circulation. The Head of Circulation provides supervision and leadership for the Circulation Department by fostering an exceptional patron experience, supporting staff training, and providing high-quality customer service. This position models the library's service standards while creating a collaborative and welcoming environment for circulation staff and patrons.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Head of Circulation supervises circulation clerks and the circulation desk while leading general circulation duties. They are responsible for training circulation staff, creating library schedules, and ensuring circulation staff maintain high levels of customer service. They perform oversight duties related to circulation including running reports, preparing overdue and billing notices, and leading weeding of the collection. They are also responsible for supervising and scheduling adult volunteers.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise circulation staff
  • Lead general circulation duties
  • Create library schedules
  • Train circulation staff
  • Run circulation related reports
  • Serve as first contact for circulation related issues
  • Process overdue and billed material notices
  • Lead regular weeding of the collection
  • Provide customer service
  • Supervise adult volunteers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION & SKILLS

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Three years of library or related experience.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • One year of supervisory experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must have the ability to lift (moderate - up to 50 pounds) push, bend, and stretch

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS

  • 40 hours per week
  • Night and Saturday availability

COMPENSATION

  • $18.00 per hour
  • Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
